A very basic way of taking a screenshot is to press the Print Screen button on your keyboard, launch an image editor (Paint will do), paste the screenshot and then save it to your hard drive. This very basic approach is not exactly appealing. If you want a handier way of taking screenshots, then you need to try the Etrusoft-developed application !Quick Screen Capture.

It won’t take long to get the application and have it running on your Windows-powered machine (works with jut about any Windows version). It won’t take long for the 1MB download to complete and it will not take long to go through the steps presented by the setup wizard. In very little time, !Quick Screen Capture will be up and ready to use.

The first time you run !Quick Screen Capture you will be presented with a “Tip of the Day”. These tips can provide some very useful pieces of advice about using !Quick Screen Capture, which is a good thing. But after a while, after you familiarize yourself with all the tips and the functionality !Quick Screen Capture has to offer, they can be annoying. Just uncheck the “Show me on Startup” option and you won’t have to see the “Tip of the Day” anymore.

Accessing the functionality !Quick Screen Capture has to offer is made simple by the fact that the application comes with an easy to figure out interface. From the interface you can choose if you want to capture the whole screen, an active window, a rectangle, a circle or an irregular shape. Advanced users will appreciate that they can use a hotkey to rapidly access !Quick Screen Capture’s functionality (by default it is F11; you can change that hotkey if you want to).

After you select what you want to capture, !Quick Screen Capture prompts you to save the screenshot, then displays the screenshot and invites you to edit it. !Quick Screen Capture comes with some basic editing skills. You can put some text on top of a screenshot, erase parts of the image, crop the image and draw freehand on it.

Forget about the Print Screen button and Paint and look to !Quick Screen Capture for a better way to capture a screenshot.

Pros

The “Tip of the Day” can provide useful information and, when it gets boring, you can disable it. The interface is user friendly and easy to figure out. Capture the whole screen, an active window or just rectangle, circle or irregular shape. A hotkey lets you rapidly access the functionality !Quick Screen Capture has to offer. The application has some basic image editing capabilities.

Cons

The interface feels a bit dated.
